We are a large, highly international, LGBTQ+–celebrating lab that knows that innovation in STEM requires bringing new perspectives to difficult problems. We believe that research teams that create and successfully maintain workplaces where all voices are heard will continue to outperform those that don’t.
Towards this end, we have several lab social events:
Monday after group meeting: 🍷& 🧀
Wednesday at 3:00: 🍫🍫🍫
Friday after group meeting: 🍺 + 🍿 + 🍬
Monthly: competitive bake-offs (🍪🥖🥐🎂🍰)
Several of our grad students and postdocs also organize regular Women in Science lunches. Discussion topics have included: interviewing and negotiation tips, the role of privilege in science, and how to craft individual development plans. All lab members are welcome to attend.
All of our members are passionate about proteins — and some aren’t afraid to show it! Many of our scientists participate in outreach and science communication activities, including at UW Women in Bio, UW ENGAGE, the Pacific Science Center, and at local farmers’ markets.
