Postdoctoral scholar Mohamad Abedi has been selected to receive a Michelson Prize: Next Generation Grant, a prestigious award that recognizes early-career investigators whose research has strong potential to transform how we diagnose, prevent, and treat immune disorders.
Mohamad received his PhD from the Shapiro Lab at Caltech where he worked on imaging and controlling cells deep inside the body with ultrasound. In the Baker Lab, Mohamad is developing new ways to control cell signaling and advance cell therapies. By redesigning immune signaling proteins with improved precision and functionality, he aims to create next-generation therapeutic strategies for immune-related diseases. This award will support the continued development and experimental validation of these designed proteins, accelerating the translation of computational design into biomedical applications.
Mohamad will join the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Bioengineering in July 2026.
Congrats Mohamad!
